Advanced Design Against Adverse Conditions in a Commercial Roofing System

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 

Mitigating risk from adverse conditions such as wind, fire, hail and moisture.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Describe certain regional design idiosyncrasies required in North America that mitigate risk from adverse conditions such as wind, sound, hail, impact and fire.
  • Identify test methods and standards commonly used to evaluate commercial roofing resistance systems against adverse conditions.
  • Accurately define and reference the correct manufacturing and product standard in specifications that will ensure optimum performance of the commercial roofing system.
  • Review FM Very Severe Hail requirements and current methodologies approved to mitigate those risks. 

SPEAKER BIO: 

Glenn Miller has been with Georgia-Pacific (formerly Temple-Inland) for over 40 years and in that time has been involved in full-line sales/marketing, product development, architectural marketing, commercial roofing and total building envelope science and marketing. His areas of specialization include Single-Ply and roofing system membrane technical sales, Sustainable Design and Construction, LEED®, construction documents, fire and sound assembly design and code/regulatory issues. Miller is passionate about providing value solutions to the design and construction industry and is excited to be a part of a company that has embraced and led the way in these ideals for decades. Miller sat on the ASTM E60 Committee for Sustainability, the Education Committee of the USGBC Texas chapter and is actively involved in CSI, IIBEC and RCA chapters throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. He is the 2019 recipient of Georgia-Pacific’s Pat Huempfner Award for Outstanding Sales Leadership. Outside of professional circles. Miller and his wife Sharon enjoy being the grandparents of 6 little ones. He is also an ordained Elder and Volunteer Pastor in his church and enjoys a variety of ministry and international mission activities. Hobbies include deep-sea fishing, grilling and gardening.
